Cannabis, protective against Covid-19: the study

Published in the magazine Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research, a study revealed that consumers of cannabis are less susceptible to serious Covid-19 infections, compared to those who do not use it.

“Cannabis users had better outcomes and a lower mortality rate compared to non-consumers,” the researchers confirmed from Northwell Health in New York. But how did we arrive at these results?

Theanalysis, conducted on data from the National Inpatient Sample Database, broke down the patients hospitalized for coronavirus in groups of cannabis users and non-users.

When compared, it was noted that those who used cannabis boasted rates significantly lower of serious Covid-19 infections:

  • intubations
  • acute respiratory failure
  • acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS)
  • shorter hospital stays
  • death

Cannabis to treat Covid-19: scientific confirmations

This recently released, is just the last of the studies which over the years have highlighted the capabilities of cannabis in preventing and fighting coronavirus.

In particular, one search from'Oregon State University, revealed that two cannabinoid acids: cannabigerolic acid (CBGA) and cannabidiolic acid (CBDA), can bind to the spike protein of the new coronavirus, and prevent it from entering cells and causing infections.

"Our results suggest that CBD and THC drugs are possible that could be used in combination with other drugs to the treatment of COVID-19 in patients,” the study further confirmed published on theInternational Journal of Biological cl Macromolecules.
