In Germany the legalization of cannabis it's reality. From next April 1st, the law authorizing its consumption and cultivation for personal use will be effective.
It is the first large country in Europe to approve it. In fact, if only first Malta and the Luxembourg Germany had moved in this direction: third largest economy in the world, is ready to revolutionize the European panorama, always promoting new regulations.
Germany: It is legal to consume and grow cannabis
Although the criticism raised by the federal Länder, and the fear that legalization in the country would be postponed, the Bundesrat: the Federal Council of Germany decided not to convene the mediation council and pass the cannabis law.
Revolutionizing drug policies. Stop criminalizing simple consumers. Countering the black market and cut off the (economic) legs of criminal activities.
These are the objectives promoted by the "Traffic Light Coalition", made up of the Social Democratic Party, the Liberal Democratic Party and the Greens, who pushed for legalization in Germany.
"The cannabis policy of the last ten years has failed" underlined the Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach, who more than anyone exposed himself for this law. "I too have been against legalization for years, but it couldn't go on like this. Studies show that we need a change here."
"We hope this is the beginning of the end for the black market," said Lauterbach, confident that illicit trafficking can decrease by 75%.
Legalization in Germany: what the law provides
With the newly approved law, adults will be able to own up to 50 grams of cannabis in private spaces, but no more than 25 grams in public environments.
Starting from July 1st, the Cannabis Club. Non-profit organizations that will be able to legally supply all their members.
Particularly every member, which must be resident in Germany and are 18 years of age or older, you will be able to purchase up to 25 grams per day, for a total of 50 grams per month of cannabis.
