Poland decriminalization of cannabis

Cannabis in Poland: what the law on decriminalization provides

The project, promoted by the Wolne Konopie organization, provides that possession up to 15 grams of cannabis for personal use and the cultivation of a seedling will no longer be punishable.

A maneuver which, for supporters of the initiative, would represent the first step towards one more liberal drug policy, focused on public health and awareness.

Furthermore, the abolition of sanctions is the key for the perpetrators to alleviate the burden on the courts and the police.

The initiative received the support of the MP Marcin Józefaciuk, which sees decriminalization as an opportunity to improve the functioning of the justice system and soften social attitudes towards marijuana users, who are highly stigmatized by current politics.

For the politician from Poland, decriminalization could reduce the number of court cases related to the possession of marijuana, allowing law enforcement to focus on the most serious crimes.

Poland: the population in favor of decriminalization

As estimated by research conducted by CBOS, up to 73.4% of Polish adults does not support sanctions for possessing small amounts of cannabis.

A fact that undoubtedly clarifies the position of the population, which is in favor of a change immediate and vigorous.

The reason is simple. Marijuana users in Poland can reach 3 million people, excessively criminalized by current regulations, according to supporters of the measure.

According to Zawadzki, in fact, the problem of addiction should be treated as one health issue, non-criminal, in which decriminalization could play a fundamental role.
