Since legalization occurred in 2021, the Republic of San Marino, under the direction of the Health Authority, has (finally) given the green light for the production of therapeutic cannabis.

And as can be seen from the initial investment used for the construction of adequate industrial structures, which affects approximately i 4 million euros for single production, the goal is to become a point of reference for the cannabis market, not only in Italy, but in Europe.
The current legislation boasts rules precise for the cultivation, transformation and sale of cannabis, which, to guarantee the quality and safety of the product, will be produced in hydroponic technological greenhouses.
Furthermore, the cultivated varieties must comply with EU directives and the entire production process, up to trade, must be traceable, including labeling and coding of product packaging.
“Among the many requests from interested companies, two are already at an advanced stage of preparing the documentation", he declared a San Marino TV Claudio Muccioli, the Director of the Health Authority, highlighting that: "Companies that want to operate in the cannabis sector can only do so for the purpose of producing a drug".
