Legalize cultivation and personal use of cannabis. This is the plan Slovenia, who is working on a law that could make the dream of thousands of citizens come true.

In fact, the initiative is a direct consequence of referendum passed in Slovenia last June, which asked the population to express their opinion on two fundamental points:

1. "The Republic of Slovenia should allow the cultivation and processing of cannabis for medical purposes on its territory?".

2. "The Republic of Slovenia should allow the cultivation and possession of cannabis for personal use limited to its territory?"

Questions to which citizens responded positively, definitively clarifying their position.

The legislators did not back down from this request, on the contrary. They responded with a bill that could confirm Slovenia the fourth country in Europe to legalize cannabis.

Slovenia's law to legalize cannabis

"Let's keep our promise and prepare modern European legislation that will deliver to our citizens access to hemp-based products safe and professionally supported for health and well-being,” said the Doctor and Health Secretary Metka Paragi during his speech at the International Cannabis Business Conference (ICBC).

In particular, as reported by the local newspaper N1, the measure aims to both promote the medical cannabis sector and authorize self-production and personal consumption of cannabis.

"The current Slovenian legislation allows the use of hemp-based products for medical purposes, but it never really took off,” Paragi stressed.

For more modern and functional legislation however, this time the government will be supported by a group of experts in the fields of medicine, pharmacy, biotechnology and law, who will make targeted proposals and follow the "work" closely.
