A new survey from Pew Research shows that almost nine out of ten Americans I am in favor of legalization of cannabis in some form, with a strong majority believing that recreational marijuana should be legal.

The new survey published, conducted by Pew Research last month, shows that nearly nine in ten Americans believe cannabis should be legal in some form.
I results declare that the88% of Americans respondents want marijuana to be legalized. In particular, more than half (59%) stated that cannabis for both medical and recreational use should be legal, while almost a third (30%) said cannabis should be legalized for medical use only. Alone one in ten said marijuana should be illegal in all cases.
Support for legalization varies by age and political orientation
The opinion of the interviewees change radically based on age.
Only 30% of those who have 75 years and over argues that cannabis should be legalized in all its forms. On the contrary, in the age group included between 18 and 29 years old, well 70% states that both medical and recreational cannabis should be legal. They also think the same way 62% of people between 30 and 49 years old. Finally, just over half (54%) of adults aged between 50 and 64 years old stated that both recreational and medical marijuana should be legal, while 53% of aged respondents between 65 and 74 years old he agrees.
The new poll also found different levels of support based onpolitical affiliation of the interviewees.
Almost three quarters (73%) gods Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents have said they believe marijuana should be legal for both recreational and medical use, while another 21% stated that only medical cannabis it should be legalized. Among liberal Democrats, 84% stated that both forms should be legal, while almost two thirds (63%) of moderate and conservative Democrats reiterated that they are of the same opinion.
However, less than half (45%) of the Republicans and Republican-leaning independent voters said that and medical cannabis than for adult use they should be legal, while a further 39% he said that only cannabis for therapeutic use it should be legalized. The majority (60%) of moderate and liberal Republicans said that both medical and recreational cannabis should be legalized, while fewer than four in 10 conservative Republicans (37%) they said that both forms of cannabis should be legal.
The poll was conducted after the presidential clemency
The new poll was conducted after the President Joe Biden he announced of wanting to forgive all convicted persons for federal crimes related to simple possession of marijuana and encouraged governors in all states to take similar action.
About three weeks later, in the midterm elections, voters in five states were called to vote in referendums for legalization of marijuana for recreational purposes. The proposals were successful in Maryland and Missouri, while they were rejected in Arkansas, North Dakota and South Dakota.
Overall, the survey results are similar to a recent one investigation carried out by Gallup. In that survey, however, no distinction was made between medical and recreational cannabis: more than two thirds (68%) of the interviewees said favorable to legalization, scoring a new record.
