Germany focuses on cannabis: attempt to block legalization rejected
At the Bunderstrat, the Federal Council of Germany, last week the Bavarian health minister Klaus Holetschek had declared that Bavaria would “do everything possible” to stop the legalization of cannabis. Presenting a motion which would have blocked the ongoing measure.
Legalization we remember would allow the personal consumption of cannabis, the self-production of up to three plants and the opening of non-profit CSCs that can accommodate up to 500 members.
However, although the motion was rejected and legalization could become a reality by January 2024, the commissions formulated 80 recommendations to review the proposal. In particular:
- measures must be added to prevent road accidents
- define standards for the safety of cultivation facilities
- impose minimum standards for the protection of health and young people
- prohibit the distribution and consumption of alcoholic beverages in CSCs
- and examine the feasibility and implementation of regulations regarding the protection of minors
Legalization which we remember, as demonstrated by numerous studies conducted in states where some form of regulation exists, does not encourage the consumption of cannabis among young peopleIn fact, it could make it decrease.
